England Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) biodiversity management actions
26 Feb 2013
The Biodiversity Actions Reporting System (BARS) has today seen a 20-fold increase in the number of actions within the system. Overnight, details of 104,728 Actions and 9,051 Projects provided by Natural England were imported and can now be seen on the map and within reports.
HLS is one of three elements to the Environmental Stewardship Programme that provides funding to farmers and other land managers in England to help them deliver effective environmental management on their land. Collectively the programme is primarily aimed at benefiting features of biodiversity, landscape, historic environment, public access, and natural resource. BARS is focussed on biodiversity actions, so the data imported is a biodiversity relevant subset of the wider Management Options applied under the HLS scheme.
This is a first version dataset and may be subject to change and refinement over time by Natural England and its partners. The actual land management activity funded by HLS is undertaken by a wide range of organisations but it hasn’t been possible so far to obtain details of those organisations within the supplied data and automatically attribute the work accordingly. This information may be available in the future.
For more details of how the HLS data was prepared please see the information about this dataset.
